Another Amazing Reader of Room 25

Well done to Elio! You achieved 100 nights reading!

I wonder who our next student from Room 25 will be to read 100 nights?

Celebrating Matariki

In Room 25, we have been learning about Matariki.
Here is a few snaps of the last 2 weeks.

On Friday, we were in the whare kai (kitchen). We made Maori Fry Bread to share with our buddy class, Room 10. It is tradition that during Matariki, you share kai (food) with others.

All we needed to make Fry Bread was self raising flour and water. Then we placed them gently into hot oil. Once they puffed up and were golden brown, they were ready!

It was absolutely delicious!

Congratulations to Jadarose. She is the first student in room 25 to achieve 100 nights of reading! Fantastic effort Jadarose.

Keep up the great reading room 25 and you could also get your 100 nights reading certificate.

Remember to read for 15 minutes every night and fill in your reading log!

Riding like the wind

This week we had Bigfoot Bikes come into our school to teach us about bike safety.
We had a lot of fun. We especially liked the game at the end.

We have done some amazing writing on how to be safe on a bike. Watch out for these, they will be finished soon!

Watch the video below.
We are talking our selves through a bike check before getting on our bikes.

Star of Week 5

Well done to Christina. She got our 'Kaitiakitanga' award this week. She worked exceptionally hard in the garden this week, weeding, planting and getting the planter boxes ready for the broad beans.
Malo lava Christina!

Samoan Lape

This morning, Hamida (Jadarose's mum) taught us how to Lape, a game similar to softball.
You play with 4 bases, like softball, but you have NO bat. You use your hands to hit the ball.

When you got a player out, the leader of the fielding team would dance to the beat of a whistle to celebrate. Everyone on the fielding team would have to copy what they did. It was great fun!

Thanks Hamida for coming in to teach us!

Samoan Language Week

Talofa lava

This week we have been celebrating Samoan Language Week.
We got to learn about the language, food and games.

Hamida and Falete came and taught us how to open a coconut. You use a rock to open it when you are in Samoa but we just used a knife. They also taught us how to shave the inside of a coconut.
