Special Guest at Owairaka

Our visitor this morning is an Olympian.

What is something interesting you know about him?

Richie Patterson talked to us about the Olympic Values; Friendship, Excellence and Respect.

He also talked about FAILURE. Failing is apart of our life and it is okay to fail. We learn from the things we don't get right straight away.

What is something you have failed at but were successful at, the next time you tried it?

Art Exhibition 2019

This term we have been working really hard to produce some amazing art for our
School Art Exhibition.

Room 24 chose to learn about Pablo Picasso. He paints in a unique way and his art is very eccentric. He says that every child is an artist. We learned that there is no wrong way of creating art. Here are our creations:

Here is our collaborative piece we created as a class. It is made out of recycled materials.
It represents the sun and we are spreading our wings, dreaming big! The Sky's the Limit!

What did you think about the Art Exhibition?

New Zealand to name a Planet!

New Zealand, along with every other country, is being given an opportunity to come up with a name for an exoplanet - a planet outside our solar system - and its host star.

It's scientific name is HD21749 and the star is HD21749C.

If you could name the exoplanet, what would you name it?

Lemoncello's Ponder

We have met some great, and interesting characters in the book 'Escape from Mr Lemoncello's Library. Who is your favourite character and why?

My favourite character is Mr Lemoncello himself. He wears these crazy costumes, like his bright yellow banana boat shoes and they make noises as he walks. Room 24 thought it was hilarious when his shoes made the tune 'Pop Goes the Weasel'. He is a very unique and eccentric character!

International Film Festival

Today Kauri team were invited to the New Zealand International Film Festival. We watched 14 short films at the Auckland Civic Center Theatre. There were many that we really enjoyed but here are top three films:

We enjoyed this film because it was quite funny how his ice-cream kept on melting before he could eat it. It was extremely hilarious when he fell asleep the last time.

This was a great film. It had a great message about waiting and being patient. The things you really want will come. It will take time. Like with the tadpole. He didn't get his legs at the same time as everyone else, but he was patient and got his legs in the end.

This film was just hilarious. All children really enjoyed laughing at this one.
