A close encounter

Week 7, Friday morning, we had an encounter with a 'Silkie' hen and a 'Australorp' chick.

Mrs Johns group have been learning about chicks and their life cycle and Tamalie and Abdullah wanted to share their learning with us. Their life cycle starts off as an egg and then becomes a chick. It takes 21 days for a chick to hatch. Once a chick has hatched, it grows into a hen or a rooster. The hens lay eggs and this begins the cycle over again.

It was great to have them visit us and share their learning.

Cybersmart

For the rest of the term, Room 22 are reviewing our learning of our cybersmart skills.
We discovered this new website (THANKS GERHARD).

There are four interactive games, and they teach you about being a digital citizen and being safe online.
We did Kind Kingdom. It teaches you about sharing kind thoughts and stop cyber bullies by blocking them or reporting them to an adult.

You should give it a go! It is great fun :-)

Stretching our sentences

For the last couple of weeks, room 22 have been learning to add details to our writing my adding in information about who, what, when, where, and why. We have also been focusing on adding adjectives, verbs and adverbs to hook our readers.

Here is what we have come up with so far:

New focus - Be Organised

We are focusing on being organised.

Room 22 are focusing on:
  • being prepared for learning with our Chromebooks ready in the morning
  • moving on the bell
  • being at the right place, right time and doing the right thing

The Telescopic Text

This term Room 22 have been learning to add details to our writing by stretching sentences. We do this by adding adjectives, verbs, adverbs, similes and metaphors. We discovered this new website called telescopic text.

Here is an example.

We were able to turn a BORING sentence into a DESCRIPTIVE sentence. You click on each word and it stretches out like a telescope.

You should give it a go!

Minecraft Creature Invasion in Room 22

Room 22 walked into a mystery scene this morning. They were transported into a Minecraft blacksmith village where an incident occurred.

Here is what they had to investigate:

There were four mystery mutant creatures in the blacksmith village last night. The villagers didn't recognize the creatures, so they broke them apart. They later counted 100 total pieces from the four dismembered creatures.

The creatures left "footprints" on the ground. Because it was dark, the villagers are unsure of the exact dimensions of the creatures, but they are able to recall their heights. Two were 3 feet tall, one was 4 feet tall, and one was 6 feet tall. However, it was difficult to tell which creature was each height.

No one knows for sure who they were or why they were here, so our task is to recreate the creatures and classify them as either "hostile" or "friendly". If their volume is greater than Steve’s volume, they are considered to be “hostile”. If they are less they are “friendly".

It was a very crazy lesson but they did really well!
